We have been working on some exciting new developments here at the Palmer Library! As you all know, the Talkeetna Library has a beautiful new building (23151 S Talkeetna Spur Rd). They have kindly given us the opportunity to use their old shelves to enlarge our Children's collection. (Thank you Talkeetna!)
Several library staff spent almost a week dismantling and hauling shelving from the old Talkeetna library to Palmer. (see pictures)
Over the next month or so, we will be doing a lot of shifting and maneuvering as we switch the shelves out. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but as you can imagine, it is quite challenging to make this transition without closing the library.
We are making every effort to make this development as painless as possible, and we thank you for your patience as we all adjust together.
The new shelving is complete in our movie section, kid's audios, and some of the easy reader section.
The Westerns have shifted up and over to a brand new section on the back wall, where our new DVDs used to be. This gives us much needed space to house Sci-Fi, Mystery, and Fiction. (See pictures above.)
Keep a lookout for developments in the next few weeks!
Our foreign film this month is Ilo Ilo.
Friday (October 9)
7pm @ The Library
We provide the popcorn!
Set in Singapore during the 1997 Asian financial crisis. Ilo Ilo chronicles the day-to-day drama of the Lim family—troublesome grade schooler, Jiale, and his overstressed parents, Heck and Leng. Comfortably middleclass and with another baby on the way, they hire Teresa, a Filipino immigrant, as a live-in maid and nanny. An outsider in both the family and Singapore itself, Teresa initially struggles to manage Jiale's antics and find her footing in her new community. The two eventually form a unique bond, but just as Teresa becomes an unspoken part of the family, unforeseen circumstances in an uncertain economy will challenge the new normal yet again.
Alright, teens, it's time to register for Fright Night!

We need your help!
Want to get involved in your community? The Palmer Library is now a collection center for the Meals on Wheels Greeting Cards Program.
Encourage a Senior in our community by providing an uplifting card or drawing to be delivered with the Meals on Wheels.
The goal is to provide a card with every meal. This is a simple and meaningful way to impact the community.
Consider bringing in a few cards. All ages are welcome to contribute!
So grab a pen, or some crayons, and write in a few cards. When you're done, drop them off at the library!
