Placing a Hold
When you place a hold on a book, you are requesting that an item in our system be set aside for you. If the item is on the shelf, it will be pulled the next morning. If the item is currently checked out, you will be notified as soon as it comes in.
You can request any eligible item that is in our system (catalog), even items that are at other libraries. They will be sent to the library of your choice for pickup.
Once the items arrive at the pickup library, you will receive notification either by email, if you have an email address on your account, or by phone, if you do not. You have seven working days from the time of notification to pickup your hold. If you do not pick it up, the hold will automatically release for the next person on the waiting list.
The MSLN limits the number of patron holds to five per card at one time. Some items are not eligible for hold (such as reference books, new items outside your home library, or microfilm).
To place a hold, find the item you wish to be held for you in our catalog. If there are multiple records for the item, it is to your advantage to choose a record that has MatSu Borough libraries under the "Owning Libraries" section. They usually come faster and follow MSLN policies regarding fines, due dates, and damages.
