  • We have 10 patron desktops available for patron use free of charge. These computers are equipped with Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Office products (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher, etc.)
  • Log on using your library card number (with no spaces) as the Patron ID. Your last name is the password. If you do not have a library card, you can get a (free) guest pass at the front counter.
  • Computer sessions last for 1 hour. You may extend your time if you let staff know before your time runs out, and no one is waiting to use a computer. Time is extended for 1 hour at a time. If you're taking a class or test, or writing a resume or school paper, please let staff know, and ask for as much time as you think you'll need.
  • Please note that the computers are programmed to shut down automatically 15 minutes prior to closing every day.
  • You can print from any of the desktops. Prints are 25¢ per page, and are black and white only. Please pay staff before printing.

Laptops for In-House Use

  • We have 8 laptops available for in-house use.
  • You must be 18 years or older to check them out, but do not need to have a library card. We'll hold your ID as collateral while you're using the laptop. 
  • These laptops do connect to the internet.
  • To print to the WIFI printer, pay a staff member 25¢ per page, then choose print. Or you may transfer files to our printer with a flash drive.
  • Laptops are equipped with optical drives and SD card slots. 

Ipads for In-House Use

  • We have 4 iPad Airs available for In-house use. This is a great opportunity to familiarize yourself with a tablet in a friendly setting. Our staff is knowledgeable and available to answer questions.
  • You must be 18 or over to check out an iPad and must trade a valid ID as collateral. (Children are welcome to use them with parent supervision. We also have child centered AWE tablets available.)

WiFi

  • We're pleased to offer free WiFi though out the library. You can connect using one of our devices or bring your own. WiFi speeds may not support streaming.
  • Choose the ppl network on your device. The password for the WiFi is: pplak123
  • Please note that WiFi is shut down 15 minutes prior to closing every day.

Kids' Computers and Tablets

  • We have 3 AWE kids' desk top computers in the kid's section.
  • There are 4 AWE kids' tablets available for In-house use. Parents must trade a valid photo ID to borrow an AWE tablet for their child to use in the library.
All AWE devices are loaded with age appropriate educational games and do not connect to the internet. They come with headphones.

Fax and Public Phone

  • Free Fax via Computer: We use a free online faxing service, myfax.com/free, at the Palmer Library. This service is available on any device, and may be used at home too. Your document(s) must be combined into one PDF, you must be able to access your email account, and it takes 20-40 minutes to complete. Free self service scanning to a counter top computer or USB drive is available using our printer. Free self service scanning, to a USB drive, is also available on our copy machine.
  • FAX: The Library does not have a standard fax machine, and cannot receive faxes. Standard faxing is available, for a fee, at:

  • Public Use Phone: We have a courtesy phone in our lobby. Local calls are free. You may use a credit card or prepaid phone card to make long distance calls.

Print / Copy / Scan

  • Print: Printing costs 25¢ per page, and are black & white only. See staff to prepay for printing. Desktop computers print to our gray self serve countertop printer, near the large copy machine. All wireless printing goes to our wireless printer behind the staff desk. Please see staff to retrieve your prints from the wireless printer.
  • Copy: Copies are 25¢ per page. Copies are black and white only. A double-sided page counts as 2 pages. We have a self-service copy machine, loaded with 8 1/2 x 11 standard copy paper. You must supply any other type or size of paper you may wish to use. The copy machine has several features, including the ability to copy the front and back of a card or license on one sheet of paper. See the red user manual above the copier, or ask staff for assistance. Color printing is NOT available on any printer or copier in the Library. Check with the UPS Store: 1150 S Colony Way, Ste 3, or any print shop to make color prints.
  • Scan: Scanning is FREE. The gray self serve printer, on the counter, will scan to either a flash drive, email, or our quick use computers on the front counter. The stand alone copier will only scan to a flash drive. See staff if you need assistance.

Electric Usage Tester

We have Kill A Watt electricity usage monitors available for checkout to library patrons. Plug an appliance into the reader. The large LCD screen will display the power consumption by the kilowatt-hour. You can figure out which appliances are using the most energy, and calculate electrical expenses.

Overhead projector

We have an overhead projector available for rent. It does not come with transparency sheets. A $100 refundable cash or check deposit is required. Rental is $5 a day.

Driver License

The DMV no longer prints paper study booklets. The library does NOT have printed driving test study booklets.

Passports

The library does not have passport forms.
Passport forms can be obtained at the Palmer Post Office.
Passport appointments are now required, and available on the USPS website.
Passport photos can be taken at the UPS Store in Palmer.

Notary

The library does not employ a notary. Notaries are available at most banks, the Courthouse Clerk's office, and UPS store, for a fee.

The Palmer Library does not offer test proctoring.
The Learning Center at the MatSu college employs test proctors.
